Minimize Idling

Low effort action

Try turning your vehicle off when stopped for 30 seconds or more as simple way to reduce your idling. Idling for over 10 seconds uses more fuel and produces more CO2 compared to restarting your engine. For saving fuel and reducing emissions, eliminating the unnecessary idling of personal vehicles would be the same as taking 5 million vehicles off the roads.

Purchase a Hybrid

Highest positive impact action

Because you already have 150,000 miles on your car, considering purchasing a hybrid vehicle. This action will have the biggest positive environmental impact for you given your driving habits and lifestyle as in general hybrids omit about half the CO2 as traditional gasoline vehicles . Hybrids are very efficient for short journeys at slower speeds, running mostly on electric. With the combination of electric and gasoline you can get the best of both worlds; electrical efficiency for driving around town and the traditional car range for longer trips.
